Home      How-To 101      Uniforms 101
Getting started from scratch can get costly.  First, if you've already been reenacting whatever uniform you have will be sufficient.  If you are a novice then here is what uniform we'd like to see.

Confederate/Federal

  • Gray Jean cloth trousers/Sky Blue trousers.
  • Gray Jean cloth sack coat or shell jacket w/block "A" buttons/Navy Blue fatique or shell jacket w/eagle pattern buttons.
  • Gray or White Woolen socks.
  • White Cotton boxer drawers. (Note: briefs are not good because wool will eat you alive.)
  • Cotton shirts in white, muslin, period plaids, or red battle shirts.
  • Vests are optional.  (Gray/Butternut/Navy Blue will work fine.)
  • Brogans are less expensive than boots so we'd advise starting out with brogans.
  • Hats can be slouch hats, forage caps, or kepi's.  We'd advise to get a black slouch hat w/red cording to begin with because black can be used for both Confederate and Federal impressions.
  • Black Leather Haversack.
  • Black Belt with a CSA buckle or a USA buckle that can be worn upside down when doing a Conferate impression.
  • Canteen either tin, stainless steel, or wood with covers.
  • Tin Cup and Plate.
  • Gray woolen blankets and/or pieced cotton fabric quilts (like grandma used to make).
  • Spoon, 3 tine fork, and knife.
  • A-Frame Tent with either one door or two doors. (NOTE:  one door tentage are a bit more secure for your gear.)
