 Porter's Battery Gazette

Greetings,

Well, it's Fall and our calendar is full of events.  I sincerely hope everyone is ready to get back at it after a needed break over the long hot summer.

     News:

Capt. Steppee came through is surgery just fine. He only had 1% hearing before the surgery and now he doesn't have that much.  After Perryville he'll be going to rehab and they'll be boosting his hearing a bit at a time as not to shock his system. When completed he should have 70% hearing restoration in his right ear. Please continue to pray from Capt. Steppee.

Pvt. Lee "Shorty" Oliver and his fiancee, Lynn, are schedule to take their wedding vows on October 31st at the little wedding chapel behind Patti's in Grand Rivers, KY.

Pvt. Don Horton has agreed to assist me with some of our camp business etc. Thus, he is now Brevet Cpl. Don Horton, Aide-de-Camp. Be sure to congratulate Brevet Cpl. Horton when you see him.

There is a place in Tennessee Ridge that does embroidery designs on caps.  They have our cap design on hand. They are $12.00 for members. Let Jimmy and I know what you want, send us the money (include tax), and we'll place the order.

If anyone knows of events going on in 2011 that we might be interested in attending please get as much information as possible about the event, including powder bounty or monetary compensation for artillery.  The likelihood that we'll attend events without one or the other is very, very slim. Bring all of this information with you or send it to me so that it can be voted on at our planning meeting in January 2011.  We're working getting the large meeting room at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Library in Clarksville, TN.

  Other News:

  • Please keep my brother, Eric Watkins, in your prayers.  He has finished his radiation treatments and will have surgery at Vanderbilt University Hospital on October 20th.  The tumor is gone from the radiation but they want to make sure it doesn't return.

    Respectfully,

    2nd Lt. Donald Watkins II
    Staff Adjutant
