To:  Members, Reserves and Affiliates of Porter’s Battery,

Well our 2010 reenacting season is upon us.  We recently had our annual planning meeting in Dover, TN.  We had a pretty good turnout considering we’d been snowed out on the actual date we were supposed to have the meeting.  We have accomplished many things in the past year, but we still have numerous things that must be addressed.

  1. We voted and approved dues for Porter’s Battery.  Without dues items such as this newsletter would not be possible.  The annual dues in $5 per member and $1 for each additional family member age 16 and above.  To mail the dues please send them to Porter’s Battery, c/o Donald Watkins II, P.O. Box 95 Bumpus Mills, TN 37028.
  2. Trash of any kind is now prohibited in campfires and this includes food items, food scraps, etc.  Burlap bags will be available at each end of the company street to place trash items.
  3. Any modern items such as coolers, food, drink, etc must be disguised for a more authentic looking camp.
  4. We all must practice military decorum when visitors are present, during roll call, during any muster, at officer’s call, and upon the field of battle.
  5. On March 27th-28th we will host an Artillery School of the Piece just south of Dover at Dover City Park aka Lick Creek Recreation Area.  This is a MAXIMUM EFFORT event.  The cost is $5 and this is dues for the NCWAA and is good for two (2) years.
  6. We had two members promoted.  Cpl Bill Poteet was promoted to the rank of 1st Sgt and Gunnery Sgt. Skyler Greenhill was promoted to the rank of Ordinance Sgt.
  7. We ask that each member make every attempt to recruit at least one new member this year.
